FAQ
Common Questions
Do you take my insurance?
Some of our clinicians are in network with some insurance plans, and we are out of network with others. We do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. Ask us before you book and we will tell you where your plan stands. The details are on the How fees work page.
What is a superbill, and can I use it?
A superbill is an itemized receipt, sent each month, that you can send to your insurance plan to ask for reimbursement. It carries a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Your plan decides whether it pays you back, and it may not.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract. Read more at cms.gov/nosurprises.
How much does it cost and how do fees work?
Your fee is given to you in writing before you book. A limited number of reduced-fee sessions are held each month. The How fees work page explains insurance, paying yourself, receipts and estimates.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. Health savings and flexible spending cards can be used to pay for sessions.
What happens in the first session?
We talk about what you want from therapy and what pace feels right. You do not have to tell your story. Your clinician explains how they would work, and you decide. The first session lasts 50 minutes.
How often and how long are sessions?
A session is 50 minutes, and couples sessions are 80 minutes. Most people start weekly. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and it can change.
Are you licensed where I live?
Our clinicians are licensed in Oregon. We meet in person in Portland, and by video with clients who are in Oregon at the time of the session. We cannot see clients who are in other states.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time, or call 911 in an emergency. This practice is not an emergency service, and we do not monitor messages around the clock. The Crisis and resources page lists other lines.
What is confidential and what are the limits?
We keep your records private and share them only as the law allows. There are limits, such as a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, or a legal order. Your clinician explains them in your first session.
Can you see my teen, and how does consent work?
Tide sees adults and couples. If you are looking for care for a teenager, we can suggest where to look. Consent rules for minors differ by state, so ask the clinician you choose.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. Tell us if something comes up and we will work out what to do.
Ready to get started?
Write to us and tell us how to reach you. We will reply on a weekday.
